I have been on campus two days now it does not seem long at all. I really love it here. These past two days have been hectic. I was basically trying to get everything together to start school tomorrow. I met a lot of wonderful people here. The first day getting here I was confused a bit. Kathleen took me to the "London Victoria" station and I said my goodbyes to her and I was on a train to Brighton then on another one to Falmer. The hour on the train went by super fast. I got to the station and there were RAs waiting for us there and my dorm in right next to the station so I went to get my keys and drop off my luggage. I went across campus to get my welcome package then came back and unpacked all my stuff.
We had a Welcome BBQ it was cool! They served us beer and wine which was weird because we do not see that in the states, but because in the United Kingdom the legal age drinking is 18 they gave us some... which is awesome for many, but I am 21 so it is like whatever... lol
After the welcoming we were basically on our own until the next morning when we had orientation at 9am, which I almost missed because my alarm decided not to go off. Good thing my ass woke up 20 minutes before the orientation. I got ready and ran out the door and walked to campus ( I do not live on campus) It's about the same distance from my apartment in SB to campus. I got an international phone (well Amalia gave it to me) and I just bought a SIM card and added pounds on it. So now I can text my new friends that I have met on the program. :)
Our internet was not working for 2 days. All the students felt devastated because they had no interaction with any of their friends from home or even interaction with the new ones because you would meet new people but then not be able to add them on to facebook. It was kinda funny listening to students wine. After orientation we went the IT to get our laptops fixed and the line was LLLLOOOONNNG... they basically kicked us out and told us to come back in an hour. We left to run some errands and come back and AGAIN we are kicked out because there is too many students trying to fix their internet. This happen to us about 5 times. We got kicked out all 5 times. Since 11pm I tried getting it fix, but it failed. Some lady even told us to login at the IT place and it would work when we got home. We went home and it didn't so it was not till about 4pm that we got our laptops internet working.
Then we went into Brighton to get cell phones for some girls and to get groceries knowing that I had our Kitchen Flat meetings at 6pm I still went. Guess what? We got lost right when we got off that bus. Good thing I had a map and we asked people where we could find the cell phone store. We eventually got to the place, got the phones and went shopping for groceries and when we were done...We had already missed the bus once before shopping and then we were running around to find the bus and we found one but we all missed our meetings. It was a day to remember at Brighton. I was running like crazy after buses, but we never made them on time. I did not take pictures, but I will soon... lol I suck at taking pictures. I still need to take pictures of the school and Brighton.
Overall, it has been two amazing days. Still have not gone out to party in Brighton, but I will. I have a Pub tour on Thursday, it should be interesting. :)
Let's see what my next adventures will be. Ohh I found out I can't go to the Harry Potter Red Carpet because I got class. :( Totally sucked ... but I am for sure gonna watch the movie.
This weekend I am off to London for a walking tour and River Cruise!! Super Stoked :)
I'm so happy you are enjoying your time there! I hope you make the most of it! Did you bring a camera? Make sure you post up some pictures. You will LOVE London!!! :) Ms. J
